They may still be a killer app away from the next big thing, but the best smart glasses are getting better, and cheaper, all the time. Our current favorites are the Xreal One Pro, but their predecessors, the Xreal One smart glasses, are on sale and could be the perfect way to dip your toe in the water. These glasses offer a 147-inch virtual display at 1080p resolution, up to 120-Hz refresh rate, a 50-degree field of view, and around 600 nits of perceived brightness. The built-in Bose stereo speakers deliver rich sound. It’s like having a portable cinema for your face, and it’s a good way to enjoy movies if you can’t get on the big TV or you’re stuck on a flight.

A major pro is Xreal’s X1 chip, built-in to the glasses, which allows for 3 degrees of freedom (DoF), so you can pin the screen. Most smart glasses require an extra accessory or app to fix screens in space. The fit is crucial, so you get changeable nose pads and electrochromic film (dimming lenses) to block out the backdrop and make the most of the relatively low brightness. You can also tweak settings like screen size and distance, IPD (interpupillary distance), calibration, and button mapping on the glasses themselves. This can make a big difference to how comfortable they are to use and reduce potential motion sickness, enabling you to kick back and watch movies on a big floating screen.
